HostGator Review #2
Posted on April 1st, 2009 1 commentwell if you need a second opinion I’m also hosted by hostgator and they have been great so far. Good uptime and good support.
When some ftp servers went haywire, they fixed it up rather quickly though I would have appreciated an email. Anyway, they have been real helpful with installing scripts and helping newbie me.
I signed on on the 5th of June so that’s my experience for about a month.

HostGator Review #1
Posted on April 1st, 2009 No commentsReliability, quality, top-notch support are all things you should have in a host, and after being with HostGator for a year, they’ve got it all. Their support is without a doubt the best from any host I’ve ever seen or heard of including telephone support almost 24 hours a day! I called their support number so many times and every time someone would answer the phone right away. Their owner Brent was always very patient and tried his best to help me if there were any problems. I highly recommend them to any newcommers out there looking for a great host. They’re also in the NAC.net datacenter in Newark, New Jersey which has proven to be one of the best in my opinion.
After a year of being with them I’ve had to leave to find a cheaper host because I don’t have a regular job, and because most of the sites I host under my reseller account are for free I couldn’t afford the luxury of HostGator.

Hostamina Review #2
Posted on March 12th, 2009 No commentsJust wanted to chime in (hope I’m not threadjacking) and confirm they are good.
I’ve been with Hostamina.com for a few months now (roughly 4) and other then minor mishaps at the start (mainly from having to reconfigure some scripts to work with their servers vs. my old host) they have given me what I wanted – uptime and reliability. Then again they run their shared hosting on 8-core 4gig ram machines
If wanted I can post a full review of what I think in a new thread when I get some more time.

Host Monster Review #1
Posted on March 10th, 2009 No commentsAfter 2 years, SO LONG HOSTMONSTER
I feel after I have been a customer for 2 years of both Bluehost and Hostmonster, I am entitled to my opinion and can offer a fair review. In December 2006 I decided it was time to cut costs and pull my co-located server from a local provider and find a better way. My partner at the time was convinced that Bluehost would fill our needs to run our e-commerce site as he had been with them on a private account for a couple of years.
So after some debate I decided to make the switch. At the beginning of the process I signed for one account at BlueHost and one account at Hostmonster as they had different plans. I wound up getting 3 fund holds put on my credit card when I only authorized 2 accounts. After dealing with an accounting department that basically didn’t care to release the hold on my funds, Matt Heaton (owner) got involved and proceeded to roast me.
I was an idiot, I wasted his time, had no idea what I was talking about. Made no effort to correct things and in no certain terms said I should just go find a new hosting company because I was obviously inexperienced and not intelligent enough to host my own sites. (I had previously run a co-located FreeBSD box for 4 years)
I let it all go, waited the ten days for the hold to be released and went about my business. To be truthful, the first year with them wasn’t so bad. The servers were responsive and things seemed to be fine. About 8 months ago I started to notice performance problems every so often. In November, it got bad enough that I finally called in to Tech Support. I was told I would have to keep calling back and complaining about it enough to get a supervisor who was the only one that could decide to migrate my account to a new box.
I waited for awhile and in January I started getting complaints from several of my clients about their sites being inaccessible off and on thru the day.
I decided then to just sign up for a new account and start migrating sites to a new box. Well, that was ok until I started noticing the same thing happening on the new box.
Essentially what was occurring on both server boxes was the server status would report the box “under a heavy load” during which time you could not access your sites and sometimes not even the control panel.
Over the period of 4 days, I had friends and volunteers hitting my accounts, 24 hours, every 15 minutes on both boxes. It came down to the point that on one box, about every 2-3 hours, sites would go down for around 2-3 minutes while “the problem is being investigated”. On the other box it was happening every 3-4 hours.
Soooo.. all I can say is, asta la vista. I’m just tired of dealing with the poor performance. The sites that are hosted on their boxes are lightweight dynamic sites with small traffic as we deal only with small business. There is/was nothing eccentric begin run.
Over the 2 years support was ok although I didn’t need to utilize their support much. Maybe 4-5 times.
The only reason I have not pushed the issue further with this company is because of my first experience with Matt Heaton. I do not want to risk dealing with that clown again. I do not need to be told this is somehow my fault when I already know it is not.
It’s just easier to leave and move on elsewhere.
Again, I wanted to provide a fair review and there it is.

WebHostingPad Review #2
Posted on March 10th, 2009 3 commentswebhostingpad.com is a SCAM one
Don’t ever host with this company. It is simply a SCAM.I signed up with them, just in 2 weeks…their web servers crashed and they told me to re-upload my data again by myself since they cannot recover it. Do you think they return your money? The answer is NO and they tell you that you have misunderstood what they offer.
What a SCAM web hosting.

What Is Overselling?
Posted on March 10th, 2009 5 commentsOverselling is a growing and widespread problem in the web hosting industry. It began when companies decided to offer ridiculously large amounts of disk space and then even “unlimited” disk space when in fact such offers are not even possible. In the world of computers, disk space can never be “unlimited”.
To put this in better perspective, let’s look at a typical web server these overselling web hosts put customers on. An example server might have 3000 GB of space, and have 600 people on it. A typical overselling host would offer at least 100 GB of space to each of its users – only enough to cover 30 of the 600 people on the server if they should decide to use all of their space. Frankly, you aren’t necessarily going to get what you’re supposedly paying for.
But it doesn’t stop there, things get worse. Let’s say you actually decide to test the limits, and see if you CAN use the 100 GB of space. Chances are the web host will have all sorts of little conditions in their terms of service that are put there for the sole purpose of keeping you from reaching 100 GB of usage. The end result? The host will suspend your account and send you packing, typically without even giving you a refund.
But wait, there’s more! The simple fact that hosts load 600 customers on a single machine is bad in itself. This is obvious overcrowding, and also a huge security concern. Rather than only 100 or so people on a machine, which you will typically find on a non-overselling web host, there are 600 on a machine (and sometimes a whole lot more)! This makes the chance of someone else being an abusive user/having an insecure website increase by 600%, which results in a 600% decrease in reliability, which in turn can result in loss of business and visitors due to website downtime (people are more likely to be UNABLE to access your website).
Thus, to sum things up, overselling is a misleading and shady practice that ultimately hurts you and your website/business. However, in today’s web hosting industry it has become the norm, and most major companies use it as part of their marketing campaigns. Of course, out of those web hosts that oversell (which is most of them), there are the good and the bad, which we help you with here through our rankings. However, we would prefer to direct you to at least one high quality non-overselling web host, which is why our top spot in the rankings goes to Hostamina.com.

WebHostingPad Review #1
Posted on March 10th, 2009 No commentsDon’t every buy from Webhostingpad. Their server goes down frequently, I canceled my account due to their bad service. In one month my website worked for 5 days. They even didn’t give me my money back although it was all their fault.

Hostamina Review #1
Posted on March 10th, 2009 No commentsSo earlier this month I decided to buy hosting from Hostamina.com – I called them on their toll free number and they seemed like they would be very helpful and they said they were willing to help me from the ground up because I’m kind of new to websites.
It kills me to say this (because everyone says it’s so easy), but I barely even know HTML. Anyway, I signed up with them and didn’t even know where to begin. They showed me where I could choose from thousands of free website templates, and then they even helped me customize it! They explained to me what was wrong with my HTML code and how to fix it, and even fixed some of it themselves!
So, after reading so many hosting horror stories all over the internet this made me feel kind of lucky that I picked a good one for my first host.
Also, my pages always seem to load really fast – I think this has something to do with them not overselling like a lot of the supposedly unlimited space/bandwidth companies, but I’m not quite sure.
Anyway, I hope you guys find this review helpful, and I hope to learn more about hosting here in the future
